Own a highly usable piece of American history, in very decent condition! 6’1” Rosewood Art Case with the "Fireplug" or “Eastlake” leg style. This piano retains an amazingly loud and robust tone from an original soundboard and bridges with absolutely no cracks. It also retains its flawless set of Ivory keytops. The 85 note action is in great condition and plays very well. It has been fully re-strung with all-new treble and bass strings from Germany. The damper back-action has been fully replaced with a quality Renner part, which does not affect the tone at all but simply makes the damping of strings much easier to properly calibrate - an expensive job, but we didn’t increase the price. As you can see, the finish on the wood and cast-iron plate is original. We wanted to preserve as much of the original build as possible. Even the hand-painted lettering is original 1877. This Steinway is 144 years young!
